Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the appropriate power for a pool pump?

When you choose a pool pump, the two important criteria to consider are power and flow rate.

The power of a pool pump is measured in Watts and corresponds to its electricity consumption and its mechanical strength. The pump flow rate is the quantity of water filtered in an hour and is expressed in cubic metres per hour.

To determine the appropriate power for your pool pump, you are advised to take into account the volume of your pool and calculate the required flow rate. This simple formula should be followed:

Filtration rate = Pool volume in m³ / 4 (hours).

For example, a 50 m³ pool will require a pump with a flow rate of 12.5 m³/h (50/4).

Additionally, you must choose a pump with a higher flow rate if it is located at some distance from the pool, if it is positioned above the skimmers or if your piping system has an unusual configuration. Indeed, these situations will lead to head losses.

You must therefore calculate the required filtration flow rate as a function of the pool volume, consider the head losses associated with the installation and select the pump with the most suitable power.
